New Mexico Deferred Compensation Plan renamed to PERA Smart Save Deferred Compensation Plan

This past summer, the Board of Trustees of the Public Employees Retirement Association of New Mexico rebranded itself, adopting a new logo and tagline. PERA’s new logo is designed to look like a nest egg influenced by New Mexico sunflowers and the sun itself – both nurturing symbols for growth. The new logo includes a tagline – Invested In Tomorrow – which reminds members that PERA exists to help them reach their long-range retirement goals.

The New Mexico Deferred Compensation Plan also received a makeover. The 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan is sponsored by PERA and Nationwide® is contracted as the administrator. All investment options in the plan are, and always have been, approved by the PERA Board.

The new title and logo for the PERA SmartSave Deferred Compensation Plan is designed to communicate that the 457(b) plan is a PERA-managed plan and that by enrolling and participating, PERA members make a smart decision to save through a plan designed to help them achieve better financial security in retirement. The new Smart Save logo includes PERA’s nest egg that’s nurtured by the New Mexico sun.

This change does not affect your fund balance, fund options and no action is required. If you are employed by a NM public school under the NMERB retirement plan, this change also does not affect you; all NM public schools are allowed to participate in this plan even though it’s sponsored by PERA.

In order to be good stewards of expenses, the transition to the new logo on Deferred Compensation Plan materials will be gradual. You will see the new logo starting this year and throughout next year. Forms with the older branding will still be valid and accepted. However, regardless of which name and logo our communication materials feature, you can be confident they are backed by a professional staff of New Mexico state employees and Nationwide associates dedicated to helping you succeed through participation in the PERA SmartSave Deferred Compensation Plan.
